Sanitation Trucks Showcase Staten Island Students’ Artwork

The artwork of two Staten Island Catholic school students is being showcased on sanitation trucks throughout the borough for their winning submissions in the “Don’t Litter, Recycle” art contest sponsored by the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) and Pratt Industries. Ryan Schnur, now a fifth-grader at St. Christopher School, and Ariana Santora, a 2017 alumna of Our Lady Queen of Peace School who is now a freshman at New Dorp High School, each received a $100 gift card during a ceremony in June at the Staten Island Yankees’ stadium. The schools each received $1,000 for art supplies from Pratt Industries. Both schools recently were presented with a large print of the winning entries during a visit by DSNY contract manager Hank Levin. During special ceremonies at both schools Oct. 2, Staten Island Deputy Borough President Ed Burke and DSNY Commissioner Kathryn Garcia honored the contest winners. The backdrop for both school ceremonies included the unveiling of the sanitation trucks that boast the artistic renderings of Ryan on one side and Ariana on the other side.
